We use circuit training for the beginner or individual who takes an extended break from resistance training (i.e. months or years). It is designed to build strength as well as endurance. The entire body is trained during this workout. Even if you are a woman weight training is very important. You want the muscles to be toned from head to toe.So, don’t be afraid! You will NOT get big and bulky! SPLIT TRAINING Split training is an advanced program designed to strengthen muscles from different angles. Here the body is divided into groups. Different body parts are trained on separate days in order to dedicate more time to each muscle individually. For instance, the lateral raise is a good workout exercise for the shoulders. Another good workout exercise for the shoulders on the same day is the shoulder press. CORE TRAINING Your core muscles, also known as Transverse Abdominals (TVA), are an essential part of your body. Not only do they wrap around your spine, oblique and stomach muscles, but they, more importantly, stabilize your torso. Because the midsection is such a common problem area, we begin our workouts with core exercises. Leaving them for the end usually means less time and energy spent on BEATING THE BULGE! We give your core muscles top priority by working them when you’re at your strongest and have the most energy—at the beginning of the workout! Also, emphasis on your core from the start will help you focus on maintaining good form and posture throughout the rest of the workout. Medicine ball drills along with stabilization movements using your own body weight are great core exercises. Increased flexibility, stamina, balance and coordination are also benefits of core training. It is challenging so be ready to sweat! ABDOMINAL TRAINING Specific abdominal exercises targeting the upper and lower regions of the stomach will be incorporated into the workouts as well. Strengthening the abdominals will help alleviate lower back pain and improve posture. Standing and walking more upright takes pressure off of your spine and pelvic area. This alone can make everyday tasks a lot easier and life, overall, more comfortable. Strong abs, strong back, strong body!!! RESISTANCE TRAINING Resistance training is the use of free weights, machines and/or bands to help strengthen tighten and tone the muscles in your body. At FTP, this is one of the many types of training we use to get you into the best shape possible. Resistance training is not like your everyday 9 to 5 job or schoolwork. In those two areas more work means more money and better grades respectively. This is not the case in the weight room. The phrase “less is more” are valuable words to train by. Whether you are a beginner or advanced trainee, three nonconsecutive workout days is plenty. The keys to having a lean physique are smart training, ample rest and proper nutrition. |
